Applesauce Loaf
Applesauce Loaf Cake Recipe
Ingredients For Applesauce Loaf:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour*
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 1/2 cups canned applesauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup raisins
Browned Butter Frosting (below)
Instructions For Applesauce Loaf:
Heat oven to 350 degrease. Grease, and flower an oblong pan 13x9x2 inches, or 2 round layer pans 8or9 inchx1 1/2 inch. Measure all ingredients except frosting into a large mixing bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowel constantly. Beat applesauce loaf 3 minutes on high speed, scraping bowel constantly, pour batter into pan(s).
Bake until wooden pick inserted into center comes out clean, oblong pan about 60 to 65 minutes, layer pans about 50 to 55 minutes. Cool. Frost cake with Brown Butter Frosting.
*Do not use self-rising flour in this recipe.
Brown Butter Frosting For Applesauce Loaf:
Heat 1/3 cup butter or margarine in a saucepan over medium heat until delicate brown. Cool Slightly. Blend in 3 cups confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar). Stir in 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and 2 tablespoons milk; beat until smooth and spreading consistency.
